  According to foreign media reports, a group of researchers from Hanyang University in South Korea used amorphous Al2O3 to achieve surface modification of graphite. This is an efficient way to improve the fast charging performance of graphite anode materials for lithium-ion batteries. . Researchers published a paper in the Journal of Power Sources. At a high charging rate of 4000mA/g, the reversible capacity of surface-modified graphite is approximately 337.1mAh/g, in which the weight ratio of Al2O3 is 1 %, when the power intensity is 100mA/g, the corresponding capacitance retention is approximately 97.2%. In order to solve the technical shortcomings of lithium-ion batteries, it is particularly important to find suitable battery materials to ensure the electrochemical performance and safety of the battery while achieving ultra-fast charging rates. To achieve this goal, various strategies have been adopted to improve the charging capacity of lithium-ion batteries, with varying degrees of success. Clearly, the wettability between electrolyte and electrode plays an important role in determining the electrochemical performance of lithium-ion batteries. In this study, the amorphous Al2O3 coating can significantly improve the wettability of battery materials such as graphite and battery separators. According to the researchers, the coating can increase the electrolyte permeability of the entire surface area of the graphite electrode, thereby improving the fast charging performance of the graphite anode material. The researchers used LiCoO2 cathodes and Al2O3-coated graphite anodes to conduct pure battery core tests. The experiments proved that the introduction of amorphous Al2O3 can provide the charging performance of graphite anode materials. Wettability tests and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy analysis show that the improvement of fast charging performance is due to the Al2O3 coating on the graphite surface, which improves the wettability of the electrolyte on the graphite.
