  Fuel cell catalyst solution: Laser graphene replaces platinum at lower cost

  Recently, researchers at Rice University's Tour Laboratory successfully developed a lower-cost fuel cell catalyst solution.   Last year, James Tour and colleagues co-invented laser graphene. The so-called laser graphene is a flexible membrane material composed of porous graphene whose surface is formed after exposure of polyimide. Initially, researchers used commercially available polyimide flakes to make laser graphene. They later immersed boron in liquid polyimide to create laser graphene, which improved its ability to store electrical charges, making it a very efficient supercapacitor.

  In a recent experiment, the experimenters fused cobalt solutions containing three different concentrations with iron or molybdenum metal salts.
