Lithium - ion polymer (soft - pack) batteries have found widespread use in various electronic devices due to their high energy density and flexibility in design. However, they also come with several notable drawbacks.
One of the primary disadvantages is their relatively poor thermal stability. Soft - pack batteries are more prone to thermal runaway compared to some other battery chemistries. This can cause the battery to swell, leak, or even catch fire. Another drawback is the self - discharge rate. Soft - pack lithium - ion polymer batteries have a relatively higher self - discharge rate compared to some other types of rechargeable batteries.
