These standards mandate tests for mechanical integrity (crush, impact, puncture) and thermal management, ensuring batteries resist damage in collisions. The UL 1642 standard focuses on cell-level safety, evaluating resistance to fire and overheating, while UL 2580 applies to battery packs, testing for electrical and thermal performance in vehicles.

Compliance with these standards involves rigorous testing: cells are exposed to extreme temperatures, overcharging, and physical stress to verify they remain stable.
