Specification and technical requirements for marine power lithium batteries

source:Industry News release time:2024-07-23 Hits:     Popular:AG11 battery

China Classification Society has been conducting research on lithium battery specification guidelines for a relatively long time. In July 2014, it released the "Inspection Guidelines for Solar Photovoltaic Systems and Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery Systems" (2014) version. With the development of lithium battery technology and the updating of standards, the application of lithium battery technology in the field of ships is also increasing. In 2019, China Classification Society released the "Guidelines for Inspection of Pure Battery Powered Ships", replacing the relevant requirements in the "Guidelines for Inspection of Solar Photovoltaic Systems and Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery Systems".

The major changes in the 2019 guidelines are the significant updates to the testing items and methods. In the testing items, thermal runaway tests have been added to individual cells, and thermal runaway diffusion requirements have been added to battery modules and battery packs. The testing methods have referred to relevant new IEC standards, national standards, and other requirements, making the tests more operational and effective. The second is the introduction of the concept of lithium battery safety classification in Chapter 2, which mainly divides batteries into two safety levels. Battery with safety level 1 requires strict protective measures to be used on ships, while battery with safety level 2 can be used on ships with general safety measures. A requirement for risk assessment of batteries has been proposed, which evaluates the potential risks of batteries from the aspects of design principles, theoretical analysis, and test results to ensure the safe use of lithium batteries.
