Stanford and Tsinghua University jointly develop "self-healing" battery
The biggest problem with lithium-ion batteries now is that as you charge them more and more times, their negative electrode's power-gathering ability becomes worse and worse. This is obviously a big obstacle to our mobile future. Recently, a research team from Stanford University developed a 12V27A batterythat can heal itself, which means it can never run out.
In recent years, researchers have worked hard to increase the energy density of lithium electrons while reducing weight. A recent exciting discovery comes from adding silicon to the electrodes, which can make the power-gathering capacity of the 12V27A batterygreatly exceed the power-gathering capacity of oxides in current batteries. The physical expansion of silicon can reach 300%, and electrons can effectively shrink after expansion, which allows this material to complete splitting in just a few charges and discharges.
The self-healing compound, developed by Chao Wang from Stanford and Hui Wu from Tsinghua University in Beijing, can repair itself in an instant. We found that adding a self-healing compound to the silicon electrode can extend its life 10 times, repairing the previous split within a few hours, said Stanford Professor Bao Zhenan (transliteration), Professor Bao Zhenan's team has helped Developing resilient electronic robot shells.

Current 12V27A batterytechnology can only guarantee no degradation within 100 charging cycles. The research team hopes that batteries equipped with self-healing technology can ensure that mobile phones will not decay for 500 charging cycles in the future, and electric cars will not decay for 3,000 charging cycles.
