　　New formula for CR2025 battery developed abroad will harden under external pressure

　　According to foreign media "Arstechnica", physicist Gabriel Veith was inspired by a substance called oobleck to develop a new chemical formula to prevent CR2025 battery from catching fire.

　　Generally speaking, the two electrodes of a lithium battery are separated by a thin piece of plastic. When the thin plastic is squeezed and breaks, the two electrodes come into contact, causing the battery to short-circuit and ultimately cause an explosion. Although the problem can be solved with non-flammable solid electrolytes, the production model will need to be greatly changed, and most manufacturers are unwilling to invest such a large amount of money.

　　The characteristic of oobleck is that it hardens when exposed to external pressure and softens when the energy is dissipated. Gabriel Weiss therefore thought of placing spherical silica nanoparticles with the same properties in the liquid electrolyte of ordinary CR2025 battery to prevent the two poles from contacting during extrusion. The new formula will reduce battery capacity and slow down charging, but other than that, it will be the same as current CR2025 battery.
