1) Soft-pack batteries are more suitable for portable, space-intensive or thickness-based applications, such as 3C consumer electronics;

2) Although square batteries have high single capacity, they are large in size and weight, while soft-pack batteries have obvious advantages in energy density. In addition, single cells are currently developing in the direction of large capacity and high rate, which will be more in line with the needs of mobile power supplies in categories such as new energy vehicles.

3) Although cylindrical battery production technology is complex and has significant advantages in energy density, due to the small capacity of single cells, more batteries are required for the same battery pack capacity range. For example, the battery pack capacity of Tesla Model S is 85 kWh, which has about more than 7000 18650 cylindrical batteries. The requirements for battery management system (BMS) are very high, while the single cell capacity soft pack value is more than 10 18650 cylindrical batteries, and the requirements for BMS are relatively low.
