Does access control system need UPS?

Access control needs UPS power. The power supply for access control is 12V. 220V electricity is converted into 12V through the power supply of access control. It is connected from the power supply to the lock and access control reader. There is no great requirement for 220V electricity. Generally, as long as this power supply has electricity under any circumstances, it is fine. In most cases, the power supply of the safety exit is used to connect the access control power supply, or a battery is prepared for the access control power supply.

The access control system needs to be equipped with UPS, otherwise it is very dangerous if the gate cannot be opened during a power outage. When configuring the access control UPS, it should be noted that after the UPS battery is completely discharged and automatically shuts down, it must have an automatic restart function when the power is on, because the UPS and the power supply system are generally inside the access control. If the power is off for a long time until the UPS battery is exhausted and shuts down, and the UPS cannot automatically restart when the power is on again, the access control cannot be used.

Why should the access control system be equipped with UPS?

1. UPS backup power is required to prevent the access control from being affected when the city power is off. After all, it is for people to enter and exit, and safety considerations.

2. Door locks are divided into two types: power-off opening and power-off closing. From the perspective of fire protection, there are generally no special requirements for power-off opening, but for some particularly important rooms, such as the finance room, rooms with important data or information, the owner will consider using power-off closing.

3. UPS must be opened by fire linkage, and the safety of people's lives is the first priority.

How to configure UPS power supply for access control system?

①Install the card reader at the entrance, and keep the induction head as close to the controlled door as possible, and away from electromagnetic fields or metal objects, so as not to shorten the effective induction distance; install an exit button at the exit, and install the electromagnetic lock on the upper edge of the door and door frame. For safety reasons, the controller and power box should be installed in the weak current well, which is convenient for future maintenance.

②The host and keyboard of the control equipment should be installed on the facade wall or workbench. Of course, the alarm is also indispensable. A better location should be selected. The power supply of the access control system should use UPS power supply to centrally supply power to the access control system.

③After the system is installed, connect one access control card reader signal to the host, and then check the access control card reader separately. If there is no problem, connect another one. After there is no error, connect all the lines, and then let the administrator authorize it.

④The lines of the access control system must strictly follow the construction acceptance specifications stipulated by the state. The cables or wires introduced into the access control controller should be neat to prevent crossing. Lines of different voltage levels and different current categories should not be worn in the same pipe or trough line, and the wires should not have joints or kinks in the trough line.

The above are some key points for installing UPS power supply in access control system. Because the community adopts centralized power supply, the cost of power trunk cable will be very high and it is not conducive to the construction of pipelines. Therefore, it is usually recommended to adopt decentralized power supply. For access control system, it is recommended that each access control main controller and the 8 auxiliary controllers it controls, and each entrance or exit of the parking system should be equipped with a 500W1h UPS power supply.
