Methanol reforming R03 Carbon batterys, will it be the right solution?
Methanol reforming R03 Carbon batterys move the hydrogen production process from the factory to the car. The advantage is that it gets rid of the constraints of hydrogen refueling stations and directly produces hydrogen for R03 Carbon batterys. The disadvantage is that it brings back carbon emissions and tail gas problems, delaying the construction of the social hydrogen energy network. The construction of hydrogen refueling stations and hydrogen energy network ecology can drive the rise of the national hydrogen energy industry economy. Considering the environmental pressure and the country's expectations of positive externalities of hydrogen energy economy, the technical route of methanol reforming vehicles is only an attempt at a product in the transition period before the hydrogen energy network is perfected, and it may not be adopted by mainstream car companies.
The small number of hydrogen refueling stations is considered to be an important factor affecting the popularization of hydrogen R03 Carbon battery vehicles. Recently, Ai Chi launched an electric supercar RG concept car using a methanol reforming R03 Carbon battery system as a solution. The car has an ultra-high cruising range (theoretically reaching 1,200 kilometers) and super power performance (0-100 km in only 2.5s), which is very eye-catching once it comes out. In actual applications, methanol reforming R03 Carbon battery logistics vehicles have been put into use in Kunming. This solution does not rely on hydrogen refueling stations. It only needs to add methanol and provide hydrogen for R03 Carbon batterys through reforming, which saves the cost of building hydrogen refueling stations and is easier to promote.

What is a methanol reforming R03 Carbon battery?
Under certain temperature and pressure conditions, methanol and water vapor undergo methanol cracking reaction and carbon monoxide conversion reaction through catalyst catalysis to generate hydrogen and carbon dioxide. There are three main ways to produce hydrogen from methanol: methanol steam reforming, methanol cracking, and methanol partial oxidation to produce hydrogen. In recent years, hydrogen production by methanol electrolysis and hydrogen production by ultrasonic decomposition of methanol aqueous solution have gradually entered people's field of vision.
The methanol steam reforming method is commonly used in vehicles. The chemical reaction formula is as follows:
CH3OH→CO+2H2(1)
H2O+CO→CO2+H2(2)
CH3OH+H2O→CO2+3H2(3)---Overall reaction formula
After the methanol and water vapor enter the reforming chamber and react at high temperature (about 250°C), the final product is carbon dioxide and hydrogen, with a composition ratio of 1:3, but it will be mixed with a trace amount of CO. After gas purification, high-purity hydrogen enters the R03 Carbon battery system, and CO is oxidized and discharged into the atmosphere together with CO2. After hydrogen enters the R03 Carbon battery system, the subsequent process is no different from that of ordinary R03 Carbon battery vehicles.

It can be seen from this that methanol reforming R03 Carbon battery is to move the hydrogen production process from the factory to the car, directly producing hydrogen for R03 Carbon battery use. The hydrogen station network has the disadvantages of high construction and operation costs, long construction time, and complex regulatory procedures. Methanol reforming only needs to add methanol filling function on the basis of gas stations. The equipment replacement cost is low, the operation is convenient, and the relevant regulations are complete. It can be said that the advantages are obvious.
Disadvantages of methanol reforming
From the perspective of the methanol preparation process, the current mainstream method is to synthesize methanol by pressurized catalytic hydrogenation of carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. In other words, hydrogen is required in the process of preparing methanol.

Iron Man Musk, an opponent of hydrogen energy batteries, believes that "hydrogen is not an efficient energy storage mechanism. R03 Carbon batterys are less than 1/4 of the efficiency of ordinary solar power generation. Hydrogen is a terrible energy storage mechanism." In other words, it is a waste to make electricity into hydrogen and then convert hydrogen into electricity. According to Musk's theory, the waste of methanol reforming hydrogen production will "go to the next level", because hydrogen R03 Carbon batterys are only "electricity-hydrogen-electricity", but methanol reforming R03 Carbon batterys are "electricity-hydrogen-methanol-hydrogen-electricity", which is more complicated. Such a tossing process is inevitably accompanied by huge energy loss. Electric energy is not infinite and is still something that needs to be saved. Due to the waste of energy, according to different measurement methods, the cost of methanol reforming hydrogen is even more than 3 yuan/cubic meter, which is more expensive than centralized coal-to-hydrogen methods.
The hydrogen obtained in the reforming process contains toxic gases such as CO, which needs to be purified and cooled (from more than 200°C to about 80°C), which requires additional equipment. In addition, methanol is corrosive, and storage devices and pipelines require special treatment, which is also an additional cost.
Overall, methanol reforming R03 Carbon battery vehicles have advantages and disadvantages. If the technical route is feasible, the cost of methanol reforming and the expensive and complicated hydrogen station network construction cost seem to be more acceptable.
So, can methanol reforming technology really be used to replace the hydrogen station network?
The mission of hydrogen R03 Carbon battery vehicles
The promotion of hydrogen R03 Carbon batterys can cooperate with the national clean energy revolution to achieve energy diversification and low carbonization. Hydrogen R03 Carbon battery vehicles are only an important branch and breakthrough for hydrogen energy to move towards terminal consumption, and an important landing application for the rapid transformation of hydrogen from industrial chemical products to energy products. Ouyang Minggao proposed that hydrogen and automobiles occupy an important position in the "five pillars" of the energy revolution. The "five pillars" are:
Pillar 1, transition to renewable energy (especially power generation);
Pillar 2, transform buildings into micro power plants;
Pillar 3, use hydrogen, batteries and other technologies to store intermittent energy;
Pillar 4, develop energy (electricity) Internet technology;
Pillar 5, electric vehicles become energy-consuming, energy-storing and energy-returning terminals.

Hydrogen R03 Carbon battery vehicles are a technical direction for the electrification of automobiles. In the case of limited range and limited range replenishment speed of electric vehicles, R03 Carbon battery vehicles are an important supplement and another choice. Promoting hydrogen R03 Carbon batterys is not only promoting clean energy, but also an important means to get rid of automobile dependence on fossil energy and eradicate automobile exhaust pollution. However, while methanol reforming R03 Carbon battery vehicles bring convenience to use, they also bring back carbon emissions and exhaust problems. Methanol reforming hydrogen production will emit CO2. Such technical means violate the original intention of using hydrogen energy. There is indeed a meaning of using R03 Carbon batterys for the sake of using R03 Carbon batterys.
It is important that the hydrogen energy society is built on the hydrogen storage and transportation network. The promotion of R03 Carbon battery vehicles can promote the construction of hydrogen refueling station networks and the establishment of hydrogen transportation networks on a large scale. Methanol reforming R03 Carbon batterys will affect the construction and demonstration operation of hydrogen refueling stations to a certain extent. On the surface, it can improve convenience and speed up the promotion of R03 Carbon battery vehicles, but in fact it delays the construction of the overall hydrogen energy network.
In China, the promotion of hydrogen R03 Carbon battery vehicles has an even more important significance. Due to the control of flammable and explosive hazardous chemicals, hydrogen transportation has been limited to 20MPa, so hydrogen has not been effectively used in energy and chemical industry. The chemical industry hopes to take advantage of the trend of R03 Carbon battery vehicles to open up the restrictions on hydrogen transportation, thereby promoting the application of hydrogen in chemical industry. If this restriction can be opened, multiple hydrogen energy transportation networks can appear across the country, reducing the cost of hydrogen transportation and use.
Develop hydrogen energy, don't forget your original intention
The development of hydrogen energy is to build a sustainable and clean energy society. Methanol reforming R03 Carbon battery vehicles, although they are convenient in the current situation where hydrogen refueling stations are not popular, have a certain positive significance for the promotion of R03 Carbon battery vehicles, but they increase emissions, affect the construction of hydrogen refueling stations, and increase the research and development costs of vehicles. When hydrogen refueling stations are increasing, this type of automotive application technology is likely to be eliminated. Under the stimulation of national subsidies, we should not use R03 Carbon batterys for the sake of using R03 Carbon batterys. The country develops hydrogen R03 Carbon battery vehicles in order to develop the hydrogen energy ecology, extend the positive externalities of the hydrogen energy economy, drive regional economic development, and build my country into a major hydrogen production, use and export country. This requires policy makers to promote technical routes that are conducive to industrial development from the perspective of the industry as a whole, and should not cause huge waste of social resources for the sake of short-term rapid promotion.
The construction of hydrogen refueling stations and hydrogen energy network ecology can drive the rise of the national hydrogen energy industry economy. Methanol reforming R03 Carbon batterys are costly and are not currently a technical route adopted by mainstream car companies. Considering the environmental pressure and the country's expectations for the positive externalities of the hydrogen energy economy, the technical route of methanol reforming vehicles is not mature enough in the application of automobiles. It may just be an attempt at a product in the transition period before the hydrogen energy network is perfected.
