Large-scale button battery 2025 used in automotive drive, load level, etc. have the basic requirements of high power density, high energy density and low cost. Due to their high activity, these alkali metals cannot be used in aqueous electrolytes, so two new electrolytes have been developed-molten salt electrolytes and solid ion conductors.

 

Batteries with molten salt electrolytes must have a high enough temperature to keep the electrolyte in a molten state; while the operating temperature of solid electrolyte batteries must also be high to keep the electrolyte conductive enough, and to eliminate the contact problem between the electrode and the electrolyte, the electrode is usually kept in a liquid state. This is a new type of power source, which requires a temperature higher than room temperature, so it is called a high-temperature battery.

 

Many technical problems related to this battery have been solved, such as reliability, cycle life and safety. The challenge is to establish a mass production process. At present, the production level of several high-temperature batteries is tens of thousands of batteries per year. In addition, more in-depth development research is now being carried out on these batteries, and one or more high-temperature batteries may be put into commercial use in the near future.
