Interaction between temperature factors and other parameters in button cell battery cr1620

The open circuit voltage of the fuel cell decreases as the temperature increases, but the increase in temperature causes the concentration overpotential and ohmic overpotential to decrease, and the operating voltage increases at the same current density. The system temperature increases and the availability of exhaust gas heat improves. For PAFC, another benefit of increasing the temperature is the increased ability of the catalyst to resist CO poisoning.

The operating temperature of a fuel cell is limited by the cell materials. When PAFC and MCFC are exposed to higher temperatures, corrosion shortens their lifespan. SOFCs are more limited by material properties. The operating temperature of PAFC is around 200°C. At higher temperatures, corrosion will have a significant impact on life. Likewise, MCFCs operate at about 650°C

SOFC has the highest operating temperature, so it has higher requirements on material properties, such as phase stability, conductive stability, chemical adaptability and thermal expansion properties. Many problems will be alleviated when the temperature drops. For currently used electrode and electrolyte materials, in order to ensure sufficiently high ionic conductivity, a high temperature of approximately 1000°C is required.
