US university research extends the life of nano 14500 batterya by 40 times
The battery designed by researchers from the University of California and the University of Maryland contains thin nanowires that can store and transmit electrons. This is nothing new in itself. The breakthrough lies in the strength of the nanowires. Although the service life of the wires in most lithium-ion batteries is 5,000-7,000 charging cycles, the service life of the nanowires of the University of California research team reaches 200,000 charging cycles.
Mya Le Thai, a doctoral student at the University of California and the project leader, said that the key to extending the service life of the wires is the use of coatings, which greatly improves their strength. She believes that the new lithium-ion battery has great market potential. "Research shows that the battery electrodes based on nanowires have a very long service life, and we can make such batteries."
At present, the commercial feasibility of the new lithium-ion battery is still unknown. If further testing and research are successful, the service life of the next generation of lithium-ion batteries may far exceed the equipment using them.
