In terms of power battery safety, Academician Wu Feng's research team started with materials, including developing temperature-sensitive electrodes, ceramic high-strength separators, safety electrolytes, etc., which significantly improved the intrinsic safety of batteries. A new generation of gel solid electrolyte based on nano-TiO2 and ionic liquid has also been developed, which has high room temperature conductivity and significant safety (non-flammable at 1300°C/60s).
Academician Wu Feng said that electrolyte is one of the main factors affecting the safety of lithium ions. As it develops towards solid state, he believes that it has not yet reached full solid state. The research team he led has developed a new ion condensation device with a new bionic ant nest structure. The gel electrolyte forms a protective layer on the surface of lithium metal, which can effectively inhibit the growth of lithium dendrites.
