  In the past, lithium-ion batteries using organic solvents as electrolytes had high energy density, but had problems with low safety and high cost. The new aqueous ion battery has the advantages of low price, no environmental pollution and high safety. These advantages have important application prospects in large-scale energy storage systems. However, electrode materials suitable for aqueous nano-ion batteries are extremely scarce, which has become a bottleneck hindering the development of sodium-ion batteries.

  Different from the "rocking chair" working principle of traditional lithium-ion batteries, during the charge and discharge process of this new battery, lithium ions and sodium ions only embed and detach on one pole of the battery respectively. Its unique working principle allows this type of battery to not only store electrical energy, but also has the function of separating lithium ions and sodium ions. The battery can enrich lithium ions and sodium ions through repeated charge and discharge processes. Compared with other existing chemical separation technologies, this operation is simpler and more environmentally friendly. This new battery not only broadens the application scope of existing lithium-ion battery materials, but also opens up a new way for the development of sodium-ion batteries, which is of great scientific significance for enriching energy storage battery systems.
