McKinsey said demand fees for electric vehicle charging stations may be too high to be profitable. The company recommends that fuel station owners install two 150kWh direct current (DC) fast chargers, as well as 300kWh lead batteries. Lead batteries can be utilized to charge customers' electric vehicles during peak hours, and with smart chargers and battery management, multiple vehicles can be charged without triggering demand charges. McKinsey said: "This configuration system can reduce the demand fee to a minimum, about $3,000 per month, which will significantly reduce costs and do not need to be passed on to consumers. Tesla has stated that it will move in this direction, and other Companies may follow suit."
