In contrast, the new battery designed by researchers combines electrostatics and electrochemical processes to store energy, making the battery cycle life nearly 50 times longer than traditional batteries, with shorter charging time and faster charging speed.

"Currently, we are developing third-party verified battery prototypes and battery packs, and will start small-scale production in India in the next 12 months," said Gadiwan, also saying that the price range of the battery pack will be comparable to that of lithium-ion batteries. The company expects battery prices to fall further as production scales up. The company is mainly targeting the electric vehicle market, but its batteries can also be used in other consumer devices, telecommunications towers and fixed energy storage systems.
