So how to ensure that electric vehicles can be charged quickly during the fast charging stage without causing excessive battery temperature or even thermal runaway? This is what PMS mainly does. In fact, fast charging will inevitably cause heat, and heat will inevitably increase the risk of thermal runaway. This cannot have both ends. As for how to monitor, is the monitoring effective? What is the solution when a potential risk is identified? Is it to directly cut off the large current? Or cut off the power supply of a certain battery separately? There is a lot of knowledge in this, and these are all algorithms for software tuning. Some powerful manufacturers will naturally invest a lot of resources in the optimization of the PMS algorithm, but everyone must understand that the optimization of the PMS algorithm is very expensive and very long.
Therefore, many manufacturers who have little strength or are halfway to becoming successful will usually settle for the next best thing and directly buy general algorithms developed by others. But the general algorithm is not guaranteed to be suitable for the conditions of this car. It should be pointed out in particular that Tesla’s PMS algorithm is the most advanced in the world, but because Tesla’s own battery pack technology is achieved by connecting tens of thousands of 18650 or 21500 cylindrical cells in parallel, even if Tesla’s No matter how advanced the algorithm is, with tens of thousands of batteries working simultaneously, the risk of thermal runaway in Tesla's battery packs is actually much higher than that of other car manufacturers.
