At the "2018 First International Exchange Conference on New Energy Vehicles and Power Batteries (CIBF Shenzhen)" held recently, Qiu Zeyou, chairman of Miaosheng Power Technology Co., Ltd. Qiu Zeyou said that after the policy cultivation period, domestic companies have the strength to compete with foreign-funded companies.

Qiu Zeyou said that driven by policies and markets, China's new energy vehicle industry has achieved gratifying results in recent years. China's power battery market is large in scale and is also very attractive to foreign companies. Foreign investment is inevitable. However, after several years of development, domestic battery companies, lithium battery equipment companies and other industrial chain companies have greatly improved in terms of technical strength and scale. By 2020, the subsidies will be fully reduced. Battery companies such as Samsung and LG from South Korea will enter the Chinese market. There will definitely be impacts and influences on Chinese battery companies, but the impact is much smaller than that in the early stages of the development of my country's power battery industry. He also said that only by constantly innovating, increasing technological research and development efforts, and maintaining product characteristics can companies better cope with the impact brought by the entry of foreign-funded enterprises. He also reminded that Samsung and LG previously adopted a marketing model below cost when entering the Chinese market. It is unclear what strategy they will adopt in the face of a new wave of competition, and domestic companies should remain vigilant.

The "Energy-Saving and New Energy Vehicle Technology Roadmap" issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology requires that the energy density of pure electric vehicle power battery monomers should reach 300Wh/kg by 2020. Qiu Zeyou said that the energy density of 300Wh/kg in 2020 depends on the environment. It is definitely possible in the laboratory. This year, Miaosheng Power has achieved a single energy density of 300Wh/kg in the laboratory, and has carried out pilot and large-scale tests, but the cost is very high, the cycle performance is poor, and the comprehensive indicators of the battery are still lacking. He also said that in the process of technology research and development, you can use a whip to whip, but it is not advisable to force the growth of seedlings. In 2020, the mass production and large-scale application of power batteries of 300Wh/kg also need to consider the market situation.
Intensified industry competition requires companies to master core technologies to gain a foothold
The new energy vehicle industry has a promising future. In recent years, a large number of power battery companies have emerged at home and abroad, and competition is inevitable; on the other hand, with the weakening of policy support, new energy vehicles have higher and higher requirements for power battery performance, and the industry reshuffle has intensified. Qiu Zeyou said that in the past few years, due to the influence of policies, some companies that lacked technology and product awareness came in, resulting in overcapacity in the domestic low-end market. This overcapacity exists in both the power battery and new energy vehicle fields. The power battery and new energy vehicle industries will be reshuffled. In the future, only companies that truly master core technologies and have real skills can gain a firm foothold in the market competition.
Problems such as slow charging, short service life and many safety hazards of power batteries have become bottlenecks restricting the development of the new energy vehicle industry. In the technology-based Miaosheng Power, research on ultra-fast charging and low-temperature applications has been at the forefront of the industry. Qiu Zeyou said that Miaosheng Power has developed a new generation of power products for the new energy vehicle market - super fast charging batteries, which are mainly 20C, 15C, 10C and 5C according to charging types. Among them, the 5C energy-type fast-charging battery can be charged to 80% in 7 minutes, and the energy density can reach 210Wh/kg or even higher. In addition, the capacity of the Miaosheng super-fast charging battery can reach more than 75% at 1C constant current charging at -20℃, and there is no lithium precipitation on the pole piece; the discharge capacity retention rate at -20℃ is more than 85% (can meet 3C discharge), and the battery can work normally even in extremely cold and low-temperature areas (below -20℃). Qiu Zeyou also said that Miaosheng Power's batteries that can be used at -40℃ have also been mass-produced, but due to the high cost, they are mainly used in special fields.
Power battery technology is one of the key factors restricting the development of the new energy vehicle industry. In order to seize the market opportunity, strong battery companies generally plan the research and development of the next generation of technology in advance and make good technical reserves. According to Qiu Zeyou, Miaosheng Power will focus on high power, high energy and high safety in the future research and development of power battery technology. Qiu Zeyou further explained that improving the high power and high energy density of power batteries can solve the problems of new energy vehicle range and fast charging, and safety is always the most critical factor of power batteries.
