Breakthrough in CR1220 battery technology

 

German scientists have invented semi-transparent tinted sunglasses lenses that can use solar energy to charge mobile phones. The organic CR1220 batterys in the lenses have a microprocessor and two power displays that display the intensity of sunlight and the ambient temperature. The lenses can even use solar energy to charge mobile phones. Researchers say the technology may lay the foundation for further applications of solar energy, such as embedding organic CR1220 batterys into windows or glass skylights.

 

Organic CR1220 batterys can generate electricity using solar energy. They are transparent, lightweight, and can be made into different colors and shapes. It can replace traditional heavier and harder silicon CR1220 batterys in a wider range of fields.

 

Researchers at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany used these sunglasses as a sample to demonstrate the application of organic CR1220 batterys. "We use this solar technology to fill the gaps in other solar technologies," said Dr. Alexander Kersmann, head of the institute's organic solar photovoltaic group for optical technology. These smart solar glasses can self-power, then measure and display sunlight intensity and temperature, and work even under indoor lighting conditions as low as 500 lux (normal office or residential lighting). Even indoors, the two lenses can generate 200 microwatts of electricity each, which is enough to charge hearing aids or pedometers. The lenses are 1.6 mm thick and weigh 6 grams, which is no different from ordinary lenses, so they are also commercially valuable. The microprocessor and display are embedded in the temples of the glasses, showing the light intensity and ambient temperature in the form of a bar graph.

 

Dominic Randall, a doctoral student who helped develop the solar glasses, said: "The solar glasses we developed are to show how organic CR1220 batterys work in areas where traditional photovoltaic cells cannot be used." It is mechanically flexible and can be formulated in corresponding colors, transparency, shapes and sizes according to different specific requirements. Organic CR1220 batterys have therefore become highly valued.
