New additives improve CR1225 battery performance
The CR1225 battery market is rising rapidly due to the increased consumer demand for electric vehicles. Recently, Nouryon began to deliver the first batch of AkuPure™ a carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) specifically for lithium batteries. AkuPure meets the ultra-high purity requirements of lithium batteries for raw materials (greater than 99.5%) and can be used to improve the production process of battery negative electrode coatings, improving battery efficiency by more effectively retaining and delivering electrical energy.
Geert-Jan Beijering, product director of Nouryon, pointed out: Customers in the CR1225 battery market want ultra-pure CMC. Impurities in CMC will affect the performance of the battery itself and production efficiency. Some of the characteristics of AkuPure are critical to the battery production process, such as fast dissolution and low insoluble content. The most important thing for customers in this field is the ability to charge and discharge frequently under various temperature conditions without losing performance.

The launch of AkuPure further broadens the terminal application market of Nouryon's CMC products. CMC is a sustainable derivative polymer derived from cellulose (such as wood or cotton). It is used as a thickener, binder and rheology modifier and is widely used in various fields such as mining and pharmaceuticals.
Recently, Nouryon also announced the acquisition of Huber Group's CMC business. Larry Ryan emphasized that this transaction will greatly expand Nouryon's CMC product range, highlighting our strategy of investing in attractive growth markets and our commitment to sustainable growth.
