  The difference between solar thermal power generation and photovoltaic power generation

  1. The power generation principle and device are different. Thermal power generation uses a heat collection device to drive a steam turbine to generate electricity. It is a method of converting heat into electricity. The most important component is a heat collector or device; while photovoltaic power generation uses the photovoltaic effect of semiconductors to directly convert light energy into electrical energy. , the basic component of solar panels, is the way of converting light into electricity.

  2. The scope of use is different. The electricity generated by solar thermal power generation is more compatible with traditional thermoelectricity and hydropower, and is suitable for large-scale development. In addition, thermal power generation has higher requirements on lighting conditions, so it is more suitable for areas with good lighting conditions. Photovoltaic power generation devices are relatively simple and have relatively low lighting requirements, making them more suitable for miniaturization and therefore more suitable for decentralized utilization.

  3. In specific applications. Photovoltaic power generation has become industrialized, and the utilization technology is more mature and suitable for large-scale promotion and use. Thermal power generation is still mainly in the scientific research and demonstration stage, and the cost is also at an extremely high level. It will take time to apply it on a large scale.
