  Portable military lithium battery power supply

  The design of soldier backpacks on the battlefield has rapidly developed with the advancement of digital technology. On the other hand, the military requires effective communication and real-time browsing of strategic information. On the other hand, devices need to survive in extreme environments while maintaining portability without compromising performance.

  For modern soldiers on the digital battlefield, reliable electronic products are an important and effective weapon. Lithium batteries have long been considered the best power source for portable devices on military battlefields. Although professional military grade lithium batteries are not easily used for commercial purposes, some commercial modules are designated to meet extreme temperatures and can be used for similar robust applications. The Puxun Battery PB series is a specialized battery for military equipment. With the increase of power density and the decrease of cost, rechargeable lithium batteries have become more feasible now. A key advantage is that it can be charged from various power sources, including portable and wearable solar energy.

  Battery management is a key issue in such applications, and military systems focus on using switch DC/DC conversion technology based on buck transformer topology. These battery management technologies can be significantly transferred to commercial systems that require battery charging by utilizing energy harvesting. Typical solutions include PBDC/DC buck transformer converters and Texas Equipment's extended ambient temperature REG71050DCT switched capacitor voltage converters and BQ24650 battery charging controllers.

  With the development of technologies such as GPS, advanced sensors, and wireless networks, military personnel deployed on the battlefield can use a wide variety of portable electronic products. Commercial technology is increasingly using specialized military grade wearable computing devices. Although we have made great efforts in the development of sturdy and durable portable computers for soldiers in backpacks and on-site headquarters, the cutting function performance of commercial smartphones is still very attractive today, although it has not been widely deployed yet. At the same time, careful design and consideration are needed to fill soldiers' backpacks with electronic devices and maintain power.

  Low power operation and mobile charging capability are key reference standards. Lithium has been proven to be compact and lightweight in all battery technologies, suitable for manpack applications. When high-performance military systems are needed, they can quickly release sufficiently high power. In addition, they can maintain charging levels during long-term storage or dormant activities. More importantly, they are durable and can operate at extreme temperatures without exploding or igniting when damaged, such as bullets.

  Until recently, rechargeable batteries were not suitable for many military systems, mainly because they lacked power density, resulting in larger and heavier battery packs. Cost is also a factor. However, the performance of rechargeable devices has been improved, and they have been proven to be particularly useful in an increasing number of portable military electronic systems, such as night vision devices, emergency positioning beacons, GPS based trackers, portable strategic computers, and communication systems. Compared with non rechargeable batteries, they have a shorter working life, limited cycle time, and high self discharge rate, which are still considered disadvantageous in some applications, but have improved in various aspects.
