Finding the value of fast charging and battery technology for new energy vehicles
Operators of new energy vehicle fast charging stations face many business challenges (including demand charges and time-of-use charges). Energy storage systems can help fast charging stations reduce some operating costs. However, its application value and benefits are highly dependent on the electricity tariff structure, capital costs, charging facility utilization and customer price sensitivity. In order to ensure that the operation of a fast charging station is financially break-even, the daily usage rate of the fast charging station needs to reach at least 8-12 times. However, most charging stations are currently used less than 5 times a day.
