What is the UL certification for lithium batteries?

source:Industry News release time:2024-07-05 Hits:     Popular:AG11 battery

UL stands for Underwriter Laboratories Inc. in the United States. The UL Safety Testing Institute is the most authoritative organization in the United States and also one of the largest civilian organizations in the world engaged in safety testing and certification. It adopts scientific testing methods to study and determine whether various materials, devices, products, equipment, buildings, etc. pose a threat to life and property, and to what extent. It is an independent, non-profit, professional organization that conducts experiments for public safety; Determine, write, and distribute corresponding standards and materials that help reduce and prevent loss of life and property, while conducting factual research business. UL's product certification and testing services can be mainly divided into listing, recognition, and grading.

The main testing standards for UL certification of lithium batteries are UL1642 and UL2054. UL1642 is a regulatory standard for the safety of lithium battery cells first introduced by UL in October 1985. It has been revised five times so far, and the current effective version is July 2013 (the first revised version of the fifth edition). It is the most widely recognized authority internationally for evaluating the safety and reliability of lithium-ion batteries under various fault conditions (such as environmental temperature changes, unexpected external impacts, aviation transportation, etc.). UL2054 is a regulatory standard for the safety of lithium batteries and battery packs, first released by UL in May 1997. It has been revised twice so far, and the current effective version is September 2011 (the fourth revised version of the second edition).

UL has a history of over 100 years, and the image of safety is deeply rooted in consumers and governments. If you do not sell products directly to consumers, intermediaries will also require products to have UL certification marks to make them popular. The entire US market places great emphasis on product safety; When consumers and purchasing units choose products, they will choose products with UL certification marks, and American consumers and purchasing units have more confidence in the products of enterprises. More than 40000 federal, state, county, and municipal governments in the United States recognize the UL certification mark.
