How to make 14500 battery safer?
Generally speaking, safety problems of 14500 battery manifest as combustion or even explosion. The root cause of these problems lies in the thermal runaway inside the battery. In addition, some external factors, such as overcharging, fire, extrusion, puncture, short circuit and other problems, can also lead to safety problems.
14500 battery generate heat during the charging and discharging process. If the heat generated exceeds the heat dissipation capacity of the battery, the lithium-ion battery will overheat, and the battery material will undergo destructive side reactions such as SEI film analysis, electrolyte analysis, positive electrode analysis, negative electrode and electrolyte reaction, and negative electrode and adhesive reaction.
1. There is a high reactivity between the electrolyte and the positive and negative electrodes of 14500 battery. Especially at high temperatures, in order to improve the safety of the battery, improving the safety of the electrolyte is one of the more effective ways. By adding functional additives, using new lithium salts and utility model solvents, the safety hazards of the electrolyte can be effectively dealt with.

3. Setting battery safety valves, thermal fuses, connecting components with positive temperature coefficients in series, using thermal shutdown diaphragms, loading dedicated protection circuits, and dedicated battery management systems are also means to enhance safety.
4. 14500 battery release heat during operation, and if they are not released in time, they will spontaneously combust and explode. This can be managed through the battery thermal management system. The thermal management system equipped with new energy vehicles is a subsystem in the battery management system. The system can cool the battery when the temperature is too high and preheat it when the temperature is low, thereby better exerting the performance of the battery.
