What is the function of a car battery and what precautions should be taken?

  1. The role of car batteries

  1. When starting the engine, provide a strong starting current (about 10A) to the starter.

  2. When the generator is overloaded, it can assist the generator to supply power to electrical equipment.

  3. When the engine is at idle speed, supply power to electrical equipment.

  4. The battery is also a large-capacity capacitor, which can protect the car's electrical appliances.

  5. When the generator terminal voltage is higher than the electromotive force of the lead-acid battery, part of the electrical energy is converted into chemical energy and stored, that is, charging.

  2. Precautions for car batteries

  1. Shake the electrolyte well and add it to the battery. Please wear gloves when operating and be careful not to spill electrolyte on your hands or clothes.

  2. For batteries without marking lines, the electrolyte should be 10 to 15 mm higher than the plate; for batteries with two red lines, the electrolyte should not exceed the upper red line.

  3. Some people think that the more electrolyte, the greater the power. This is a wrong idea. When the car is driving at high speed, the generator output voltage is greater than the battery voltage and begins to charge the battery. When charging, the volume of the electrolyte expands. If the electrolyte is too full, it will overflow from the small hole in the battery cover. The electrolyte conducts electricity, and once it flows between the positive and negative poles of the battery, it will form a self-discharge circuit. The car will not start and the battery life will be shortened. In this case, wipe off the electrolyte with cotton or rinse with boiling water.

  4. When adding electrolyte, do not let other objects fall into the battery. If something accidentally falls in, do not use metal to fish it out. Use wooden sticks to pick out the impurities. If you use iron wire or copper wire to fish it out, metal molecules will enter the battery under the corrosion of sulfuric acid and form self-discharge, damaging the battery.

  5. Regularly check whether the small holes on the battery cover are ventilated. If the small holes are blocked, the gas generated cannot be discharged. When the electrolyte expands, it will burst the battery shell, thus reducing the life of the battery.

  6. Check the liquid level of the electrolyte regularly and add electrolyte in time when the liquid level drops.

  7. If the vehicle is left unused for a long time, the vehicle should be started every 25 days and run at medium speed for about 20 minutes. Otherwise, if the car is left for too long, it will be difficult to start.

  8. When removing the battery from the car, remove the negative pole first and then the positive pole, and do the opposite when installing. Be sure to unscrew the battery cover when charging, and do not use an open flame close to the battery port being charged, because the hydrogen gas generated in the battery during charging can easily explode.

  9. Do not casually replace the car's battery with a larger capacity than the original battery. Because the power generated by the car generator is fixed. If you replace the battery with a larger capacity, the new battery will be undercharged and the car will not start smoothly. Moreover, long-term battery loss will shorten the life of the battery.

  10. When starting the car, each start time should not exceed 3 to 5 seconds, and the interval between restarts should not be less than 15 seconds.
