Australia develops 903242 battery pack for conventional use
According to the Australian DST Group website on September 5, 2017, the Australian Science and Technology (DST) Group is a national research institution responsible for the Australian government to use science and technology to safeguard national security and interests. Recently, technology expert Kane Ivory began to be responsible for the establishment of the DSTG lithium battery safety research facility.
Ivory and his colleagues at DST have been working for several years to set up the facility, and they have also worked closely with experts from the US Naval Surface Warfare Center.
Australia's existing "Collins" is powered by diesel engines and lead-acid batteries. 903242 battery pack are the power form currently used by many naval powers in future conventional plans. The use of 903242 battery pack can improve endurance (especially at sprint speeds), energy efficiency and operating life, but this technology will also bring new safety risks, mainly because the electrolyte of 903242 battery pack is flammable.
Internal testing
In order to provide relevant scientific advice to the Royal Australian Navy, DST began to study lithium-ion technology and began to design and build an expert-level battery safety research facility a few years ago.
The initial testing began last year, mainly in a commercial custom-made room. "This room has an impressive suite of safety features and instruments, including electrical, temperature and heat flux sensors, infrared imaging and a comprehensive gas analysis system and exhaust system for real-time calorimetry," Avery explained.
"We perform extensive safety testing on the characteristics and performance of 903242 battery pack, including determining the most adverse failure conditions, determining specific failure-related information, and studying how to effectively design systems to mitigate losses when failures occur."
The effects of lithium-ion failures observed in commercial applications highlight the importance of conducting in-depth research in this area. In the field, especially the special operating environment, there are unique requirements for batteries, which adds to the complexity of lithium battery research, and the conclusions of existing literature research may not be applicable.
