Researcher team greatly improves the safety of CR1225 battery

 

Recently, Wen Zhaoyin's team at the Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, realized the in-situ preparation of gel polymer electrolytes through ion-conductive initiators. The gel polymer electrolyte has excellent fire resistance. The solid-state lithium battery assembled based on the electrolyte can still power the light-emitting diode array under shear and fire conditions (flame temperature 528°C), which greatly improves the safety of CR1225 battery.

 

To a certain extent, gel polymer electrolytes have the advantages of high safety of solid polymer electrolytes and high ionic conductivity of liquid electrolytes, and are considered to be the most suitable electrolyte system for practical applications. At present, the gel polymer electrolyte system based on polyvinylidene fluoride and its derivatives is more studied. However, the gel electrolyte still contains a certain amount of flammable liquid electrolyte, which poses a safety hazard.

 

In order to further improve its safety and electrochemical properties, scientific researchers have done a lot of research work. However, most literatures do not report in detail the safety performance of gel polymer electrolytes. On the other hand, in the preparation process of gel polymer electrolytes such as the currently commonly used phase conversion method, a large amount of volatile organic solvents are used, which not only pollutes the environment, but also increases costs, and the preparation process is cumbersome. The above problems can be avoided or alleviated by using the in-situ cross-linking polymerization preparation method.

 

This work provides a new research idea for using fire-resistant gel electrolytes to obtain excellent ionic conductivity and ensure the high safety of gel polymer electrolytes and corresponding CR1225 battery.
