Qualcomm acquires electric vehicle wireless charging technology company HaloIPT

[Original from Electronic Engineering Network]: Qualcomm announced on November 8 that it has acquired almost all the technology and other assets of HaloIPT, an electric vehicle wireless charging technology supplier.

Qualcomm said that all HaloIPT employees have joined Qualcomm's European Innovation Development group (European Innovation Development group) in the UK.

Andrew Gilbert, executive vice president of Qualcomm Europe Innovation and Development, said: With its 20 years of wireless power development and innovation experience at the University of Auckland and the university's commercialization company Auckland UniServices, HaloIPT has established itself as a leading company in a relatively short period of time. The developer of wireless charging technology for electric vehicles has won praise and awards from the industry.

Last month, HaloIPT was announced as the winner of two New Zealand Innovation Awards: Emerging Innovator and Design and Engineering Innovation.

According to HaloIPT’s website, HaloIPT’s wireless charging technology is based on a technology called inductive power transfer (IPT).

HaloIPT Executive President John Miles said that in the past 18 months, HaloIPT’s wireless charging research at universities has attracted the attention of the global automotive industry and demonstrated the potential of wireless charging to several leading original equipment manufacturers around the world. That's not a bad achievement.

In addition to the acquisition of HaloIPT, Qualcomm has also signed a long-term research and development agreement with Auckland UniServices to promote the continued development of wireless charging for electric vehicles.
