SolidPower partners with Ford to develop lithium 3400mah 3.7v 18650 battery for next-generation electric vehicles
According to foreign media reports, Solidpower is collaborating with Ford Motor Company (Ford Motor Company) to develop lithium 3400mah 3.7v 18650 battery for the next generation of electric vehicles. Solid-state batteries have better performance and are safer than current industry standard lithium-ion batteries. This cooperation will focus on the development of lithium 3400mah 3.7v 18650 battery that meet the requirements of automotive applications, making full use of Solidpower's first fully automatic, roll-to-roll technology (roll-to-roll) production facility, which is expected to be fully operational in the second quarter of 2019.
In September 2018, Solidpower announced that it had raised US$20 million (approximately 130 million yuan) in Series A financing. Subsequently, Ford participated in the company's next round of financing. Investors in this financing also included Volta Energy Technologies, Hyundai CRADLE, Samsung Venture Investment Corp., Sanoh Industrial Co. , Solvay Ventures and A123 Systems. In December 2017, Solidpower announced a partnership with BMW Group to jointly develop solid-state batteries for electric vehicles and customize Solidpower's technology to meet the requirements of high-performance electric vehicles.
Solidpower's lithium 3400mah 3.7v 18650 battery are safer than lithium-ion batteries due to the removal of flammable liquid electrolytes.
