SOC is the most important parameter in the BMS lithium battery management system. Because everything else is based on SOC, its accuracy and robustness (also called error correction capability) are extremely important. Without accurate SOC, no amount of protection functions can make the BMS work properly, because the battery will always be in a protected state, and the life of the battery cannot be extended.
The higher the SOC estimation accuracy, the higher the cruising range of electric vehicles can be for a lithium battery of the same capacity. Highly accurate SOC estimation allows the battery pack to maximize its performance.
3) Balance technology
Passive equalization generally uses resistance to release heat to release the "excess power" of high-capacity batteries to achieve the purpose of balancing. The circuit is simple and reliable, and the cost is low, but the battery efficiency is also low.
Active balancing transfers excess power to high-capacity cells during charging and transfers excess power to low-capacity cells during discharge, which can improve efficiency, but is more expensive, complex circuitry, and low in reliability. As cell consistency increases in the future, the need for passive equalization may decrease.
