  The difference between polymer lithium-ion batteries and ordinary batteries is in the electrolyte. In the original design in the 1970s, a solid polymer electrolyte was used. This type of electrolyte is similar to a plastic film and cannot conduct electrons but allows ion exchange (atoms or groups of atoms that can be charged). Polymer electrolytes replace the traditional porous membranes saturated with electrolytes.   As a compromise, some gel electrolytes were introduced. Most of the polymer lithium-ion cell phone batteries currently on the market are blended batteries that contain gel electrolytes. The system was modified with a lithium-ion polymer, making it the only polymer power source currently available for portable devices.

  After adding the gel electrolyte, what is the difference between the lithium-ion polymer battery and the general lithium-ion battery? Although the two batteries are very similar in performance, the lithium-ion polymer replaces the porous diaphragm as the only solid electrolyte. The gel electrolyte just increases the ionic conductivity. Polymer lithium-ion batteries have not caught on as much as some analysts predicted. Its advantages and low manufacturing costs have not yet been realized. Because its capacity has not been increased, in fact, the capacity is slightly less than the standard lithium-ion battery. The market for polymer lithium-ion batteries is in the application of ultra-thin geometric power supplies, such as credit card power supplies and similar applications.
