18650 rechargeable battery lithium 3.7v 3500mah.New progress in research on electric vehicle battery standards

release time:2024-03-01 Hits:     Popular:AG11 battery

Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL), a global leader in product safety testing and certification, announced on December 26 that it will release its latest research outline for large batteries for electric vehicles - ULSubject 2580.

With people's increasing interest in electric vehicles, the introduction of UL's latest research outline will help reduce potential fire and electricity hazards when people use electric vehicles, and enhance the overall safety of electric vehicle batteries. Before officially becoming a standard, this outline will undergo a comprehensive review by a global Standards Technical Committee (STp). STp is composed of consumer representatives, government agencies, regulatory agencies, manufacturers and other relevant groups with professional knowledge. Its purpose is to jointly develop and update effective product safety standards.

Due to rising prices of traditional energy and concerns about environmental issues, it is foreseeable that the use of electric vehicles will increase significantly in the next few years. Billions of dollars have been invested in manufacturing and promoting this technology globally, including nearly three billion dollars specified in the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, and large batteries, which are key components of electric vehicles, are in the U.S. market. It will go a long way. International consulting firm Ovi Consulting predicts that in the next ten years, the number of new hybrid electric vehicles and battery-powered electric vehicles on the road will reach one million to five million units each year, but at the same time, along with high growth rates are potential fire, electric shock and other safety issues.

"Many factors will determine the use of electric vehicles on the market, such as the cost, performance, sustainability and safety requirements of large batteries." Mr. Jeff Smidt, general manager of UL's Global Energy Division, said, "At UL, we always put safety first. Put it first. Through a series of safety standard requirements that have been developed and the latest battery safety standard requirements released this time, we can help manufacturers provide safer electric vehicles for the market."

ULSubject2580 is not mandatory, and manufacturers are free to choose whether to meet the requirements of this outline to reduce security risks. Currently, there are no UL standards for testing large batteries such as automotive batteries.
