Take BYD, one of my country's leading power lithium battery companies, as an example. As of April 2019, BYD has a total of 1,209 domestic lithium-ion battery patents, far ahead of other companies. Even in the past three years, the number of lithium-ion battery-related patent applications each year has been around a hundred, which shows the importance it attaches to this field. However, the reporter did not retrieve BYD's patent applications in other countries, and this is not optimistic news for BYD, which is exploring the international market.
So, what do overseas patents mean to power lithium battery companies? Industry experts said that if they want to explore overseas markets, overseas patent layout is the next target that Chinese companies need to focus on.
