　　Non-toxic quantum dot research improves CR2032 button cell efficiency

　　The U.S. Department of Energy's Alamos National Laboratory and Sharp Laboratory pointed out in a recently published research paper that using low-cost, copper quantum dot-based CR2032 button cells can last longer and be more efficient. The paper is published this week in the journal Nature Communications.

　　Hunter McDaniel, a postdoctoral researcher at the Alamos Laboratory, said: "We have confirmed for the first time that the efficiency of quantum dot-sensitized CR2032 button cells is above 5%. So far, it is the highest efficiency among the quantum dot-sensitized CR2032 button cells that have been reported." This enables the commercial use of new low-cost, non-toxic photovoltaic technologies.

　　The CR2032 button cells in the paper are based on a new generation of non-toxic quantum dots and do not contain the lead or cadmium contained in general quantum dot-sensitized CR2032 button cells. These quanta are based on copper indium selenium sulfur and can be carefully optimized to reduce the loss of charge carriers due to surface defects and cover the most complete solar spectrum range.

　　Victor Klimov comes from Alamos Laboratory and is also the director of the Center for Advanced Solar Photophysics (CASP) under the U.S. Department of Energy's Energy Frontier Research Center (EFRC). He said: This new CR2032 button cell has been verified by the US National Renewable Energy Laboratory and has the highest photoelectric conversion efficiency among similar cells.
