"The European Battery Alliance's joint research activities will cover the entire battery value stream - from raw materials to battery technology to recycling," the companies said in an online statement. "The main goal is to accumulate a wider range of battery cell production technologies." Undisclosed industrial and academic stakeholders from seven EU member states plan to participate in the EBU. Their research will focus on the production of raw materials, cell technology, production processes and recycling. They will also examine how to develop competitive yet environmentally sustainable factory technologies across the EU. Their efforts may be eligible for funding from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. The two companies aim to start production next year. Separately, Northvolt announced in October this year that it plans to open a battery factory in Gdansk, Poland, at some point this year.
