To mitigate the effects of self-discharge, some lithium-ion batteries are equipped with a low-power standby mode or a sleep mode where the self-discharge rate is minimized. Additionally, proper storage conditions, such as storing the battery at a moderate temperature and at an appropriate SOC level, can help to reduce the impact of self-discharge. Ongoing research aims to further understand and control the self-discharge process in lithium-ion batteries to improve their long-term reliability and usability.
