  It uses phosphoric acid as the electrolyte and cheap carbon materials as the skeleton. In addition to using hydrogen as fuel, it is now possible to directly utilize low-cost fuels such as methanol, natural gas, and city gas. Compared with alkaline hydrogen oxygen fuel cells, its biggest advantage is that it does not require CO2 treatment equipment. Phosphoric acid fuel cells have become the fastest growing and most mature fuel cells at present, representing the main development direction of fuel cells. The largest fuel cell power plant in the world currently is the 11MW US Japan Cooperative Phosphate Fuel Cell Power Plant operated by Tokyo Electric Power Company, which has been operating well since its completion in 1991. Among the more than 100 fuel cell power generation systems put into operation in recent years, 90% are phosphoric acid type. The types of phosphoric acid power generation systems supplied in the market mainly include 50KW or 100KW from Fuji Electric Company of Japan and 200KW from International Fuel Cell Company of the United States.

  Fuji Electric has provided more than 70 power stations with a site life of more than 100000 hours.

  The current problems to be solved for phosphoric acid fuel cells are: how to prevent catalyst agglomeration from causing surface area shrinkage and reduced catalyst activity, and how to further reduce equipment costs.
