Recently, the research results of "high energy density all-liquid organic electrochemical active material liquid flowbutton battery cr1620" completed by Beijing Low Carbon Clean Energy Research Institute and Department of Chemical Engineering of Tsinghua University were published in the latest issue of "ACS Applied Energy Materials" sponsored by the American Chemical Society, and were featured on the cover of the magazine, attracting widespread attention from the society.

It is reported that large-scale energy storage (or grid energy storage) technology is a key technology to increase the grid connection rate and popularize the application of renewable energy, and is also a key enabling technology for the development of energy Internet, distributed power generation, power auxiliary frequency modulation, off-grid power supply, safe backup power supply and other fields. The research results of "High Energy Density All-Liquid Organic Electrochemical Active Material Flowbutton battery cr1620" completed by Beijing Institute of Low Carbon and Clean Energy and Department of Chemical Engineering of Tsinghua University proposed for the first time an organic flowbutton battery cr1620 based on all-liquid active material, which has high theoretical energy density, high theoretical power density and good reaction activity. It is one of the most promising large-scale energy storage technologies. Compared with traditional flow batteries, it has the advantages of good safety, independent design of power and capacity, long energy storage time, high output power, large energy storage capacity and easy expansion.

The power density of a typical kilowatt-class flowbutton battery cr1620 exceeds 500mWcm-2, which is 2-3 times higher than that of a traditional flowbutton battery cr1620 of the same level, realizing the miniaturization of the stack and the efficiency of the material, and has obvious low-cost advantages. At the same time, the positive and negative electrodes of the flowbutton battery cr1620 are respectively made of 2,5-di-tert-butyl-1-methoxy-4-(2-methoxyethoxy)benzene and 2-methylbenzophenone, which are rich in raw material sources. The open circuit voltage of thebutton battery cr1620 reaches 2.97V, which is 1-1.5 times higher than that of traditional liquid flow batteries, and the theoretical energy density reaches 223WhL?1, which is more than 4 times the theoretical energy density of traditional liquid flow batteries (50WhL1).

Experiments show that the active materials at both poles of the active liquid flowbutton battery cr1620 have excellent electrochemical properties and good cycle stability, with a current efficiency of 95% and an energy efficiency of 70%. This study has initially explored the direction of successfully improving the energy density of liquid flow batteries from a new perspective, which has important inspiration for the research and development of a new generation of liquid flowbutton battery cr1620 technology.
