One of these opportunities is the graphene battery that has been hyped in recent years. Now, both in the United States and in China, a lot of energy, manpower and material resources have been invested in the commercialization exploration of graphene 16340 battery.

 

Of course, it will take at least 5 years from scientific research breakthrough to product launch, which means that this "graphene ball" technology will not be available on the market for at least 5 years.

 

Compared with Moore's Law, the improvement of battery performance is only about 3% per year. This speed is actually much slower than the update speed of chips, but with the development of new battery technologies, it has also shown an accelerated development trend.

 

But at the same time, entrepreneurs must also be aware of the difficulties in battery technology research and development, that is, life, energy density and charging time, which are not easy to take into account.

 

The reason is that fast charging will destroy the active materials of the battery, resulting in a short life. But long-life 16340 battery generally have poor energy density. If you want to strike a good balance between the three, you need a lot of capital intensive investment, which is often only large companies can do.

 

Since the limiting link of lithium 16340 battery is the scarce cobalt ore, there is an urgent need to find battery technology that does not contain cobalt and can improve energy density, power density and wide applicable temperature.
