  LG Chem

  According to PushEVs, LG Chem's LR6 battery roadmap is very clear. The company focuses on NMC811 cathode materials to consolidate its leading position in the LR6 battery market. In addition, the company's batteries have high energy density and low cost. Today, the third-generation mass-produced batteries have been used in electric buses, which has taken a big step forward in energy density, reducing costs and improving charging performance.

  The company has increased the content of aluminum oxide (alumina) in NCMA batteries, while the content of cobalt is less than 10%, and the output will be mass-produced in 2020. The nickel, cobalt, and manganese contents of 622 ternary batteries are 70%, 10%, and 20%, respectively. However, the company is currently increasing the nickel content of NCMA batteries to 90%, and the LR6 battery is under development. The 712 LR6 battery is also in the research and development stage and will be mass-produced in the next 2-3 years.

  So far, LG Chem has only produced NCM811 batteries for electric buses, but the NCM622 pouch batteries for electric vehicles have a higher energy density. It is worth mentioning that Hyundai Kona Electric will use LG Chem's NCM622 batteries.

  SK Innovation

  The company plans to mass-produce NCM811 LR6 battery cells in August 2018, which can be used in electric vehicles. Kia NiroEV will be the first model to use this LR6 battery.

  Tesla-Panasonic

  Tesla claims that the energy density of the LR6 battery on the Model 3 electric vehicle ranks among the highest in the industry. The company has reduced the cobalt content and increased the nickel content. It calls it a new generation of NCA LR6 battery chemistry, but its LR6 battery cathode is produced by other manufacturers.
