ETHZurich designed a solar reactor for the project, which is placed on top of the loop tower. Inside the reactor, the operating temperature will be above 1500°C, where water and carbon dioxide will cycle through thermochemical oxidation-reduction reactions to produce a synthesis gas mixed with hydrogen and carbon monoxide. The synthetic gas will then be transported to a power station built by HyGear, which will be responsible for turning the gas into liquid kerosene. Relevant staff involved in the project pointed out that this technology will have an important impact on transportation industries such as long-distance air transportation and ocean transportation in the future.
