  The TpS6300x is an ideal solution for converting Li-ion battery voltage to a 3.3V bus voltage. It has the characteristics of high efficiency, small circuit board area, low cost, and seamless conversion from buck mode to boost mode. It is an ideal choice to help design engineers complete high-performance and fast designs. For portable power applications, taking full advantage of the small size and high energy density of advanced battery technology requires efficient operation over the entire battery discharge voltage range.

  The TpS6300x can also drive white LEDs in current regulation mode, which uses resistors in the WLED loop instead of the output voltage divider network. Since the typical forward voltage drop of WLED is 4.2 to 3.5V, using lithium-ion batteries for power supply is problematic in most power supply topologies because the power supply needs to step down and step up its output voltage at the same time. The buck-boost function of the TpS6300x solves this problem well and can easily provide 500mA for lighting or flash applications. TI's TpS63001 has the characteristics of minimal component count, small circuit board area, low cost, and can efficiently convert the 6LR61 battery input voltage to the 3.3V bus voltage. In addition to integrating buck and boost functions, it also integrates switching FET, compensation and protection functions in a 3x3 mm QFN package. Only three external components are required to ensure operation: input and output capacitors and an inductor. Its current is sufficient to power most portable loads.

  The TpS6300x contains both buck and boost switching FET configurations connected to a single inductor. Unlike the standard buck-boost mode that continuously switches four FETs simultaneously, the TpS6300x uses a proprietary modulator design to switch only two of the FETs at a time. This control mechanism significantly reduces unnecessary switching losses. The operating efficiency of the TpS6300x in buck or boost mode is higher than that of the traditional buck-boost mode, further reducing power loss. When the 6LR61 battery discharges to and below 3.3V, the buck-boost converter must switch from buck mode to boost mode. At this transition point, many buck-boost control schemes experience efficiency degradation, supply jitter, or output voltage instability. The TpS6300x seamlessly transitions between buck and boost modes on a pulse-by-pulse basis as needed, thus providing constant pWM switching in both buck and boost ranges without overlap or stalling between modes. time.

  The TpS6300x also includes other integrated features that enhance the experience in portable applications, such as extremely low quiescent current, a user-selectable power save mode that maintains high efficiency at light loads, and helps minimize system noise external synchronization, etc. The average current mode control topology provides fast transient response and low output ripple in both buck and boost modes. The short-circuit protection functions as a foldback current limit. When the output voltage drops by 3%, the maximum output current limit drops from 1.7A to 800mA. This reduces device power consumption during output overload conditions. Normal operation can be resumed after the overload is cleared. The advantage of this method is the ability to charge large output capacitors such as ultra-large capacitors. The pS mode feature maintains very high efficiency even at light loads below 300mA. In pS mode, the switching time is sufficient to raise the output voltage just above the output voltage set point, and then stops switching until the output voltage drops below the set point again. This "on-then-off" switching pattern provides extremely high efficiency at light loads.
