UPS parallel mode
UPS parallelization means that when two or more UPSs work at the same time, the related loads can be dispersed and the responsibilities borne are reduced, which can naturally reduce the probability of failure. This is because when a machine fails, other intact power supplies will assume the responsibility of the failed power supply, and the operation of the entire system will not be affected in a short period of time. Master-slave hot standby, mutual aid and interactive hot standby are the three main modes of UPS parallelization. Due to different line connection methods and working methods, the three often play different roles and have different advantages. , when choosing, you should carefully consider the characteristics of the equipment.
The advantages of master-slave hot backup UPS parallelization are high flexibility, simple installation, and no need to add additional auxiliary circuits. There is no big difference between this parallel mode and UPS series connection. The disadvantages are also the same as those in series connection. That is, during normal use, the main unit is loaded and the backup unit is unloaded, resulting in inconsistent aging of the two units and low instantaneous overload capability. The advantage of mutual-aid redundant parallel UPS is that it can automatically share the load, has strong instantaneous overload capability, and does not have the problem of uneven aging. The mutual redundant parallel UPS has 4 channels (mains 1, mains 2, bypass and battery) for power supply. Under normal circumstances, the two UPSs each work with 50% load. If one of the UPSs fails, it will be disconnected immediately. system, the load is automatically switched to another UPS.
When a single unit fails, the load of a normally operating UPS increases from 50% to 100%. Compared with the master-slave hot standby type, which increases from 0% to 100%, the load change is smaller, so the system has a stronger overload capability, ensuring output stability. The interactive hot-standby UPS parallel machine has dual outputs. The two UPSs are mutually backup, but they need to manually share the load. When the load distribution is reasonable, its instantaneous overload capability is very strong.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Four UPS Parallel Methods
1. Master-slave hot backup
The host machine is loaded, the standby machine is unloaded, and the standby machine is connected to the BYPASS (bypass) input of the host machine.
advantage:
●High flexibility, not subject to brand restrictions
●Simple installation, no additional debugging required
●No additional auxiliary circuits and no increase in purchase cost
●Can be used as n+1 hot backup and can be expanded in stages
shortcoming:
●Low instantaneous overload capability
●The aging of the two machines is inconsistent
●The backup battery is not in float charge state for a long time, which affects the battery life.
2. Interactive hot backup
The two machines are loaded separately, and the load is distributed manually in advance. It is an improved version of master-slave hot backup.
advantage:
●This solution is an improved version of master-slave hot backup. It is a parallel solution that manually distributes the load at one time. In addition to retaining the advantages of master-slave hot backup, all its disadvantages are overcome.
●Strong instantaneous overload capability
●There is no long-term floating charge state of the backup battery
●The Achilles heel of no redundant parallel solution—circulation
shortcoming:
This solution is not applicable if the load power cannot be allocated manually
3. Interactive Hot Backup (ATS)
Single machine with load, unit interaction
advantage:
●Due to the use of unit interaction, the probability of system failure is greatly reduced
●Two UPSs can work alternately
●No bottleneck failure points
shortcoming:
●Low instantaneous overload capability
4. Redundant parallel connection (N+X)
Automatic load sharing. The development process from parallel cabinets, parallel modules, parallel boards, wireless parallel to digital control, automatic parallel (parallel UPS uses current control equalization and completely independent control)
advantage:
●Strong instantaneous overload capability
●No bottleneck failure points
●Automatic power sharing
shortcoming:
●There is circulation, and different paralleling methods have different circulations. Circulating current increases reactive power loss and reduces system reliability
●No matter what kind of parallel scheme, additional auxiliary circuits need to be added, which will increase costs and increase points of failure.
