  Formic acid is easier to produce and store than hydrogen, and China has the biggest advantage in producing formic acid. Coal is considered an unclean energy source and its use in chemical industry is relatively simple compared to petroleum. However, Coal is precisely the most economical raw material for the production of formic acid. Currently, coal-based "one-carbon chemistry" mainly produces formic acid.
