　　According to Asolmex, the Mexican Solar Energy Association, domestic cumulative installed capacity increased by 2% this year, from 3,075 MW at the end of December to 4,057 MW. “Mexico is known as a global player in solar energy,” said Asolmex President Hector Olea, “and one of the most competitive and dynamic. Continued growth is helping to meet domestic demand for electricity, which is now growing at more than 3% annually. "As of the end of December, 38 large-scale solar power plants in 11 states in the country were put into commercial operation. In just over five months, 44 solar parks have become operational in 14 states, with a total installed capacity of 3,364 MW, accounting for 34% of large-scale power generation. The association added that this represents a total investment in solar capacity of more than $6.5 billion to date, creating more than 50,000 jobs, which will help regional development in the areas where the power plants are located. As for distributed generation, there were 85,000 net metering contracts across the country as of the end of December, with a total installed capacity of 570 MW. There are now 94,893 solar rooftops in operation, equivalent to 693 MW of capacity, a 22% increase in less than six months. The solar agency said distributed generation has achieved more than $1.8 billion in direct investment and created more than 6,000 jobs in the value chain, making the technology one of the most successful and competitive photovoltaic technologies in Mexico. “The solar industry is on track to solidify itself as the fastest-growing technology in the clean power generation mix, helping to increase Mexico’s energy security and sustainability,” Olea said.
