AG3 battery.UK develops liquid air energy storage technology

　　A consortium consisting of Aggregate Industries, Innovatium and the University of Birmingham has secured £350,000 in funding from the Department for Business, Energy and Industry (BEIS) to develop liquid air energy storage (LAES) technology.

　　Funding from the Industrial Energy Efficiency Accelerator (IEEA) program will be administered by the Carbon Trust. The IEEA funding will take the project from Technology Readiness Level 5 (TRL 5) to Validated Deployment in Special Environments (TRL7), a step towards the commercialization of the technology.

　　LAES technology is the product of innovation, known as peak reduction through integrated storage and management of air (prisma), which stores energy in the form of liquid air to provide compressed air. 　　The Prisma system will use a latent cold storage filled with phase change materials (PCM), which will be developed at the University of Birmingham's School of Chemical Engineering.
